A man has been re-arrested in connection with the disappearance and now death of Dalene Carlson.
Carlson’s body was found last weekend in a field in Escalon and the coroner ruled her death was a homicide this week.
Carlson went missing August 7 and was last seen on surveillance video with Jason Gilley.
Gilley was arrested Thursday morning by a swat team and will now face charges in connection with Carlson’s death.
“It was decided after looking over that evidence and talking to the District Attorney’s Office, that he would be taken into custody,” said Officer Pete Smith of the Stockton Police Department.
Gilley was originally arrested in mid-August, and faced charges of kidnapping and false imprisonment. However, he was released later that same day and the charges were dropped. Investigators at the time said Gilley and Carlson were seen on surveillance video at a Food4Less after leaving a bar.
Once released, Gilley spoke with FOX40 about the arrest and about Carlson.
He told FOX40 Carlson was “spiritful” at the bar on the night of August 7, but that her ex-boyfriend was watching her.
In his interview with FOX40, Gilley maintained his innocence.
“I’d never hurt myself or anybody. Everybody that knows me knows that,” Gilley said.
No word from investigators what new evidence led to the re-arrest of Gilley. However, FOX40 has learned that a bag of evidence was taken from the home where Gilley was arrested Thursday morning during a search warrant seizure.
Gilley will face charges of murder, in addition to the original charges from August of kidnapping and false imprisonment.
Gilley is set to appear in court Monday, Oct. 24. No bail has been set.
