If you have never worked as or heard of the position of “assignment editor” please DO NOT apply. If you think car crashes are good news, DO NOT apply. If you think council meeting video is compelling, DO NOT apply. If you regurgitate press releases, DO NOT apply. However, if you love the sounds of scanners and get a rush from breaking news, this might be the job for you. If you are organized and love details and are just a little bit anal retentive, this might be the job for you. If you can’t stand losing and really get your kicks by beating the competition, this might be the job for you. If you have a desire to find out information and keep digging until you are satisfied, this might be the job for you.
We need a person who can manage logistics of the day-to-day assignments of crews in the field, deal with egos, feed news to social media and the web, while still finding the best coverage in the market. We need a person that will be able to take a story and make it matter to our viewers. We need a person who comes to work with ideas and has the ability to make those stories come to life. We are looking for a college graduate, with at least two years newsroom experience and a flexible schedule for days, nights, weekend etc. Writing for broadcast, writing for web, and great leadership and interpersonal skills are required. We want someone who would rather ask for forgiveness than ask permission, and make their own call based on clear reasoning.
If this sounds like your dream job, please send resume with references to Brandon.Mercer@fox40.com.
