Amador County Sheriff Deputies say eight rare miniature cows were stolen last month, along with two killed by thieves.
Rick Sanders is the owner of the historic Scottish Miniature Highland Cows. He has spent the past 20 years breeding them smaller and smaller, with the goal of returning them to their historic size.
Sanders and another man in New Zealand are the only people in the world that breed these animals at their historic miniature size. His cows are sold as pets, for anywhere from $5,000 to $25,000. The thief took about $30,000 worth of cows from Sanders.
Sander’s does not believe the thieves understand the exotic cow’s worth. He believes their intent is to slaughter them for meat.
The cows have a unique look, are about 3 or 4 feet tall, have long shaggy hair and are very friendly. If you see some of these cows in your neighborhood, and they weren’t there 2 months ago, call the Amador County Sheriff’s Department.
