Roseville Police Arrest Suspect Child Predator in Lake County

Robert Schmidt (Roseville Police Department)

Police arrested a 33-year-old Lake County man Tuesday for reportedly planning to meet a minor in Roseville for sex.

Investigators say parents found text messages from Robert Schmidt on their teenaged son’s phone Sept. 29. They had reportedly planned to meet and spend the night at a hotel in Roseville.

The parents confronted Schmidt at the hotel and he drove away, police say. That’s when the teen’s parents contacted investigators.

Roseville detectives were able to get an arrest warrant and took Schmidt into custody Tuesday in Lake County, with the help of Lake County Sheriff’s deputies.

Schmidt was booked into Placer County Jail for meeting with a minor for sexual acts and related charges. His bail was set at $400,000.
