Michael Rule and his winnings

SACRAMENTO-

A man facing layoffs next year at the Sacramento Campbell’s Soup plant has a little bit brighter future after matching 5 numbers of the MEGA Millions.

Michael Rule is a machinist at the soup plant, which announced earlier this year they will be closing down next summer.

Rule was buying new tickets for MEGA Millions and SuperLotto when the clerk reminded him to check his previous week’s tickets. The clerk was adamant Rule check his old tickets, so he went back to his car and got them out.In that stack was a winning ticket.

“I went home and checked the numbers one more time, and then I told my wife and daughter, but they thought I had only matched four numbers,” he explained to Lottery officials. “I had to point out it was five and worth $250,000, and then all H-E-double L broke loose.”

Rule says he plans to pay off some bills and invest the rest of his $250,000+ winnings.

MEGA Millions is played in 42 states, plus the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
