Thousands to Compete in Sacramento’s Spartan Obstacle Course

RANCHO MURIETA -

Nearly 5,000 athletes will compete in Sacramento’s first Spartan Race, a challenging nationwide obstacle course, on Saturday morning.

Competitors will run, jump, crawl and climb through 35 muddy obstacles that span 13 miles.

Event organizers say the race is about having fun and getting dirty, not a competition intended to scare people away.

A portion of the money raised from the event goes toward funding cancer research and Homes For Our Troops, an organization that helps build homes for injured servicemen and women.

Registration for the race is still open.
