Emergency responders in Ceres were busy rescuing a mini horse trapped in a canal near Crows Landing and E Service roads Saturday morning.
Dispatch got a call from a Turlock Irrigation District security guard around 9 a.m. The guard apparently tried to get the horse out but couldn’t.
Firefighters found that the canal had only about 12 inches of water in it, so they only needed to strap the mini horse with a rope and walk it out.
The owner of the mini horse was nowhere to be found, so a nearby rancher is said to be housing it for the time being. Animal services is trying to find the owner.
