PILOT HILL–
Family members are waiting to hear if their loved ones were lost in a house fire Sunday night in rural Pilot Hill.
James Stephens was troubled to see the cars belonging to his sister and brother-in-law were both in the driveway. He says the couple was getting older and finding it harder to get around.
“If he were in there, I know he would have gone to save her,” said Stephens.
The El Dorado County Fire District says it is holding off on a search of the house on Salmon Falls Road until firefighters are sure the home is structurally sound.
Stephens says the home is more than 100 years old, and the $10 receipt is still on the wall from when the property was first bought.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
