Holiday Trash Piles Up
While people camp in line to fill their houses with new stuff, the old stuff will be making its way to Sacramento County Waste Management.
The biggest shopping time of the year translates to the busiest time for these guys, as they face an influx of wrapping paper, celebratory beverage bottles, and of course the old stuff that’s getting replaced by the new.
“There’s a lot of stuff I saw in there that’s probably usable and a lot of people throwing it out,” said Bobby Reynoso, who stopped by to dump some of his junk. “They should think before they throw out some good stuff!”
Sacramento county deals with 150,000 tons of trash each year, and 45,000 tons of recyclables. So while you’re sitting around the dinner table giving thanks for what you have, these guys will be dealing with the stuff that you gave up on. And there’s a lot of it.
