Toby Hill woke up Wednesday morning to find a huge 50-plus-foot oak tree toppled over in front of his grandfather’s home.
“I heard a crunch, a loud crunch … ran out in my underwear,” Hill said with a laugh.
“What was your first impression when you saw what happened,” FOX40 asked his grandfather, Tom Hill.
“Well, I wasn’t excited,” Tom Hill said, before breaking into a laugh as well.
Both taking it in stride, grateful that no one was hurt. But the tree did some significant damage.
“My dad’s Jeep was demolished,” Toby said, pointing to a crushed red Jeep Wrangler. Smashed from the outside, in. A rollbar that’s supposed to protect you in a rollover.
“This thing here, just like a piece of cardboard,” Toby said, touching the crumpled metal bar.
The long and heavy limbs of the old oak tree, struck part of the roof of the clubhouse just next door.
In the 35 years, Tom has lived there, another oak tree came crashing down a few years ago. Fortunately, no one was hurt at that time, either.
“I just thank the Lord that everybody was okay,” Toby said.
