Christmas trees go up in flames more often than you think, but experts say there are a number of things you can do to avoid the dangers.

First, make sure the needles in your tree are soft. Second, check the water in your tree daily, not every few days.

Also, be sure to use indoor lights on your trees and to turn them off whenever you leave your home.

You should also cut the tree trunk another half-inch when you get home so that your tree can absorb water better.
