Head-on Crash Kills 4 on Highway 50 in Placerville

A head-on collision along eastbound Highway 50 in Placerville Saturday night has taken the lives of four people.

A Prius going westbound is said to have turned into oncoming traffic for an unknown reason. The car then collided head-on into a minivan.

Three people, including one child, from the Prius have died. A fourth passenger, also a child, has survived.

An infant inside the minivan has died. The infant was properly restrained at the time. There were five passengers in total inside the minivan.

The condition of the surviving victims is not known at this time.

The accident is said to be near the Red Apple Cafe at the Still Meadow Road intersection of Highway 50. CHP says the crash happened just after 6 p.m.

    This was an undortunat accident. That curve on hwy 50@ the red apple cafe is a veary dangerous corner and should be taken at a slower speed of 55mph. That corner has a history of car wrecks and fatalities.

    Yes! That whole stretch right there is very dangerous, especially where there is a break in concrete barriers (not that they help much more). Locals drie way too fast there, sometimes at speed of 75-85 mph or more! Then people from outside of town think its ok to drive that fast. I was here shortly after the accident on my way to work. The scene was horrific! I am so sad for the families involved. My heart goes out to them.
