The Amgen Tour of California will once again be bypassing Sacramento. In fact, no Central Valley cities will be represented this year.

As announced Tuesday, the annual bike race will start in the Southern California city of Escondido on May 12. By May 18, the race will make it to Mt. Diablo. The final stage on May 19 will take bicyclists from San Francisco to Santa Rosa.

Organizers note that this will be the first year in the tour’s eight-year history that it will be going from south to north.

The Sacramento-area hasn’t been represented in the race since 2011, when Stage 2 took riders from Nevada City to Sacramento. Davis, home of the Bicycling Hall of Fame, hasn’t been represented since 2012.

Apparently, San Jose has been involved with the race every year.
