Firefighters are mopping up hot spots after a home catches fire and the roof collapses.

The roof of a vacant house collapsed in Friday morning’s rain after a large fire.

The fire started around 6 a.m., during heavy rain in Sacramento at a home along Gardner Avenue near Florin Road.

Firefighters arrived to find flames burning through the second floor of the vacant home.

After checking the first floor for signs of life, the roof collapsed, and firefighters had to fight the fire defensively from the outside.

About 45 minutes later, the fire was knocked down.

No preliminary word on the cause of the fire.
