A Major League Soccer team could be coming to Elk Grove, with the mayor-elect reportedly meeting league officials over the weekend.
Gary Davis’ office acknowledged Monday morning that the city had signed an exclusivity agreement with team ownership a few months ago.
“These discussions include building a soccer-specific stadium in Elk Grove and are well on their way to completion,” Davis’ office wrote.
Davis’ office also noted that the mayor-elect had been invited to the MLS Cup in Los Angeles over the weekend for some talks with MLS Commissioner Don Garber. The Central Valley is reportedly of interest to the MLS.
“He laid out a few parameters – all of which we are already well under way in meeting. If done right, we have an opportunity to get a real professional soccer team in Elk Grove,” Davis’ office wrote.
Sacramento officials are also announcing they have snagged themselves a pro soccer team. The announcement will come at 11 a.m. However, the team is from the United Soccer League.
