Community Helps Catch Alleged Hit-and-Run Driver

STOCKTON–

An elderly man was struck and killed in Stockton Friday. He was walking across Waterloo Road on Harding Way around 1 p.m. when an SUV struck and killed him.

Witnesses called police and gave them a good description of the driver and car, a blue ford Explorer.

Just a few minutes later, police received a report of a stolen vehicle. When they went to investigate, they realized the man making the report fit the description of the hit and run driver.

Joe Silva with the Stockton Police Department say he tried to use the stolen vehicle story to try and get away with the crime. That man, who has yet to be identified, is behind bars.

Police credit the quick closure of this case to the Stockton residents who stayed at the scene and gave police a good description.
