SACRAMENTO–
A woman was hit and killed by a freight train near Elvas Avenue and 65th Street Saturday afternoon, Union Pacific says.
According to Union Pacific, the woman was not crossing at a designated railroad crossing. Authorities declared her dead at the scene.
The incident happened around 2:30 p.m., with the train said to have been traveling from Chicago to Lathrop.
“This is an unfortunate reminder that it is never safe to cross railroad tracks except at a designated railroad crossing,” wrote Union Pacific representative Aaron Hunt in a statement.
Union Pacific Police will continue to investigate the incident.
