King Fire Revealed to be Arson, Man Arrested

Residents Recall Deadly Road Rage Incident

The sound of gun shots rang throughout the streets of Predial and Essence Way in North Highlands early Saturday morning, leaving one man dead.

“It was about 2 o’clock in the morning. The dogs were going crazy. You just hear the pop, pop, pop, pop,” said resident Nancy Lee.

Deputies say it all started when Duane Lomax was involved in a road rage incident with two women.

“The neighbor across the street said someone just got shot,” said resident James Wheloon.

Lomax dialed 911 after he said women waved a gun at him, but he also began to follow the women to get a better description of the car.

That is when deputies say the women called a family member, Brian Jones, 24  for help. Deputies say Jones pulled up alongside Lomax and shot him multiple times while Lomax was still on the phone with 911.

“This is a really good neighborhood,” said Wheloon. “The most thing we worry about is people speeding down the street.”

“I have been here 10 years this is not good. It is not safe,” said Lee

When paramedics arrived, they couldn’t revive Lomax. Fortunately, he gave them a good enough description of the cars involved.

Jones was arrested and now faces murder charges. The two women did not expect Jones to bring a weapon; they aren’t facing any charges.
