Residents Recall Deadly Road Rage Incident

NORTH HIGHLANDS–

The sound of gun shots rang throughout the streets of Predial and Essence Way in North Highlands early Saturday morning, leaving one man dead.

“It was about 2 o’clock in the morning. The dogs were going crazy. You just hear the pop, pop, pop, pop,” said resident Nancy Lee.

Deputies say it all started when Duane Lomax was involved in a road rage incident with two women.

“The neighbor across the street said someone just got shot,” said resident James Wheloon.

Lomax dialed 911 after he said women waved a gun at him, but he also began to follow the women to get a better description of the car.

That is when deputies say the women called a family member, Brian Jones, 24  for help. Deputies say Jones pulled up alongside Lomax and shot him multiple times while Lomax was still on the phone with 911.

“This is a really good neighborhood,” said Wheloon. “The most thing we worry about is people speeding down the street.”

“I have been here 10 years this is not good. It is not safe,” said Lee

When paramedics arrived, they couldn’t revive Lomax. Fortunately, he gave them a good enough description of the cars involved.

Jones was arrested and now faces murder charges. The two women did not expect Jones to bring a weapon; they aren’t facing any charges.

I don't understand this. The women did not expect Jones to bring a weapon. Didn't Mr. Lomax report to 911 that the women "waved a gun at him"? I am sorry Mr. Lomax died, but he followed people who had "waved a gun at him"!! Wave a gun at me, and I'm heading the other way. The article doesn't say who the women were, even though we have the names of everybody else involved. If these women are waving guns, shouldn't we know who they are? Finally, Ms Lee informs us "….this is not good. It is not safe". That's deep & thought provoking stuff, but at the end of the article we still don't know what prompted the road rage in the first place.

I have to disagree with the comment saying he shouldn’t have followed the girls anyways! That’s heroic… He potentially was saving someone else’s life(s). I knew him personally and he was a wonderful person! He was doing what he thought was right and attempting to at least get those females off the street, reason why he called 911. Whether he was right or wrong there is no excuse for someone taking his life! That man that took his life just took someone’s father, son, boyfriend & friend away from us! He wasn’t out in the streets causing any harm to anyone and for a life so innocent to be taken away is such a tragedy!
