DAVIS–
UC Davis announced Monday morning that Ron Gould has been hired as the head football coach. Gould comes from Pac-12 school UC Berkeley, where he has coached for the past 16 years.
Most recently, he was the associate head coach under Jeff Tedford.
“Under my leadership, we will provide a rich student-athlete experience, and compete in the classroom and on the playing field toward the pursuit of excellence,” Gould said in a statement.
The Aggies went 4-7 in outgoing coach Bob Biggs’ final season. Biggs coached UC Davis for the past 20 years.
In Biggs’ tenure, the Aggies went 144-85-1 – along with 11-8 in Division II playoffs. The Aggies moved from a Division II to a Division I school under Biggs, finishing first in the Great West Conference twice. The Aggies moved to the Big Sky Conference this past season.
Sacramento State has only managed 4 wins over the Aggies in the yearly Causeway Classic since Biggs was hired as head coach.
Gould will reportedly earn $235,000 a year in his new position.
