Butte County Sheriff’s detectives say the man they labeled as a suspect in a Yankee Hill murder killed himself last month in Douglas County, Missouri.

Paul Moreno, 34, was wanted for the killing of 26-year-old David Groves Jr. Groves was found buried at a home on Lower Gulch Road in Yankee Hill when Butte County Sheriff’s deputies were serving a search warrant.

Also at the home, deputies found a butane honey oil lab, meth, several guns and a stolen car. Groves, a Stockton resident, was reported missing in March. Moreno was also a resident of Stockton.

Investigators names Moreno as a suspect in Groves’ death, but he reportedly fled the state to avoid arrest.

Moreno shot himself Nov. 11, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
