A Stockton man was arrested late Tuesday night after police say he shot his girlfriend with a shotgun.

Eric Kim, 18, was handling a 12 gauge shotgun when it went off and his his 17-year-old girlfriend in the ankle, police say.

The girl was on the phone when she was shot.

Kim was booked into the San Joaquin County Jail for assault with a firearm. Kim’s girlfriend was taken to the hospital with a serious injury, but is expected to be fine.
