Four East Bay residents were arrested in Auburn Saturday for trying to pay with counterfeit money, Auburn Police say.

Police showed up at the Auburn Town Center along Elm Avenue after getting a report that two men were trying to buy something with counterfeit money.

Once at the scene, they found 42-year-old Antioch resident Kenneth Hillery in the parking lot and arrested him on forgery and burglary. Two others, 21-year-old Mariah Ortiz and 19-year-old Richard Bridges (both also from Antioch), were then found in Hillery’s car and were arrested for conspiracy.

More counterfeit money was also found in Hillery’s car.

Later, less than a half-mile down the road, 21-year-old Pittsburg resident Pernell Hill was caught at a business and arrested on burglary and forgery charges. Hill was found to be the subject wanted in the original report.
