Ami Bera Spending First Christmas As Congressman-Elect Helping Others
While most people in the government have the day off, Ami Bera is spending his first Christmas as an elected official helping others. The congressman-elect will be serving Christmas dinner at Loaves and Fishes in Sacramento Tuesday morning.
The dinner will take place on North C Street near North 12th Street starting at 11 a.m.
Director of advocacy Joan Burke says, “I think it’s wonderful that people in the Sacramento community come in on Christmas day to make sure that people have the warmth of Christmas. Literally, it’s gong to be raining today and people can have a wonderful meal and be greeted by smiles and simple gifts. That’s the essence of Christmas.”
About 500 guests are expected and they will be given a holiday stocking filled with presents such as socks, hats and gloves, toothbrush and toothpaste. Children will receive stockings filled with presents and a stuffed animal.
Bera is expected to stay until about 1 p.m.
