SACRAMENTO–

Joseph Merjil, 31, has been identified as the man killed in home invasion robbery that turned deadly – for the alleged robbers.

Police say residents on Heaven Court called in to report shots heard in the area around 3:30 a.m. on Dec. 23. Once at the scene, officers found that a shootout had happened between a homeowner and ‘multiple’ suspects, who are believed to have tried robbing the home.

One man died at the scene and 3 others were injured; they were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Merjil is that man who died at the scene.

Later that same day, police arrested 21-year-old Thomas Ordonaz in connection to the shooting. He is charged with assault with a deadly weapon and being an accessory after the fact.

Authorities have not made it clear if Ordonaz was one of two suspects sent to the hospital. The homeowner was also taken to the hospital.

This is not the correct date that the shooting occurred. It happened a few days before Christmas, not the 26th
