Five new feet of snow have led to crews temporarily calling off the search for a missing plane in Yosemite until spring.

The small, single-engine plane was last seen on radar Dec. 17 near the North Dome area of the park. The pilot, Nicol Wilson, was flying to the Mammoth Lakes area from Santa Barbara. His family reported him missing when he never showed up.

No other passengers were aboard.

An areal search for Wilson’s plane covered roughly 8,000 miles of ground.

Because of all of the new snow that fell in recent storms, the area where crews were searching became too dangerous to continue.

Search crews will start back up in spring of 2013, when conditions improve.
