Neighbors Wake Up to BMW in Home

SOUTH SACRAMENTO -

Neighbors in South Sacramento woke up to the smell of a gas leak and a BMW smashed into a home Friday morning.

The car hit a gas meter and crashed into a home around 3:30 a.m. near the Valley High Drive and Center Parkway intersection.

The driver appears to have been speeding and left a skid mark about 70 feet long when he tried to slam on the breaks. The carĀ  hit a house and the accident injured at least one person in the home.

Daniel Thomas lives in that house, he told FOX40 he woke up to flying glass, a loud crash sound and the strong smell of gas. He say he put on his pants and he and his wife got out of the house. Some residents in the area were evacuated until the gas line could be shut off.

The crash left a crater sized hole in in the house, and took out a two bedrooms and a bathroom.

The driver also suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital where he will also be checked to see if he was under the influence.

Neighbors were evacuated from their homes because of the potential for an explosion after a gas leak.
