Merced Escapee Taken Back into Custody

Sheriff’s officials say that Adrian Hicks, a 39-year-old Merced man who escaped from John Latorraca Correctional Facility back on Wednesday, has been re-arrested.

Authorities were able to track Hicks to a home along Santa Fe Avenue near Shaffer Road. Around 2 p.m. Saturday, sheriff’s deputies made their move – surrounding the home and then searching for Hicks inside.

Hicks was hiding under a pile of clothes in a closet, sheriff’s note.

After a headcount around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, Hicks was discovered to be missing from the prison. A blanket was found on a fence, with officers saying that Hicks probably made his escape through a hole in a bathroom ceiling.

Hicks was originally arrested on Dec. 13 and was facing charges of possession of stolen property, grand theft and evading a peace officer.
