A 52-year-old Lodi man led authorities on a car chase from Stockton to outside of Newcastle late Saturday night.
The chase started in Stockton at around 11:30 p.m. During the chase, the man swerved towards authorities and wouldn’t pull over.
Around 12:04 a.m. near the Sierra College Boulevard exit, CHP deployed some spike strips to try and stop the man. But, in spite of getting the man to slow down, the chase didn’t stop until it stretched almost all the way to Newcastle.
The chase ended around 12:20 a.m., although when he finally stopped, sheriff’s say that he wouldn’t get out of the car. When he finally did, he claimed to have a mental breakdown.
David Muhammad Hunter was taken into custody and faces felony evasion, resisting arrest and assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer (for trying to ram a CHP car), authorities say.
Hunter apparently owns a Yuba City carpeting business called Hunter & Sons.
Marin Austin, James Myers and Cecilio Padilla filed this report.
