Shots Ring Out at Old Sacramento New Year’s Gathering

oldsacshootingSACRAMENTO-

Police are responding to reports of shots fired in Old Sacramento, as crowds were gathered to watch New Year’s Eve fireworks.

Police say two people were killed and three others were hurt in the shooting.

Businesses in the area on on lockdown and investigators go over the scene.

Investigators say the shooting stemmed out of a fight that started inside the Sports Corner bar on K Street. The fight spilled out onto the street, where the shooting happened.

It’s unknown if the shooter isĀ in custody. It’s also possible that there was more than one shooter.

The gunfire happened not long after a 9 p.m. fireworks display. The midnight display was canceled by police because of the shooting investigation.

A woman claiming to have witnessed the shooting says she saw a man in a hoodie standing over someone on the ground and firing at least 10 rounds into the victim.

This was the first year I went to Old Sac for New Year's, I went with friends and family. Walked right past the Sports Bar going to Candy Barrel when the shots fired. That is the last time I go to Old Sac! Who ever that witness is, is completely incorrect, there were 6 shots fired.

Not sure where you were when it all happened but I heard WELL MORE than just 6 shots… a lot closer to a full clip of 15 is what I heard.

Me and my wife was on K St and it was mad frantic people were running while the gun men was running down the street. I am happy that no kids were shot.

It doesn't matter if it was 6 or 15 shots one was to many! How sad that someone had to bring a gun to a new years celebration!!!! Just one more reason to stay home!!! I hope these people are all ok and the shooter has been caught!

It is against the law to consume alcohol while carrying a weapon and it can never be taken in to a bar…EVER. Shooter is a killer that needs swift justice.

Unfortunately it will not happen because of the laws in this state, they are not enforced. If caught he will plead and get a ten or fifteen year trip to prison where he can hone his skills. A swift execution would remove the danger, even if it does not deter anyone else from copying his behavior.

Welcome and wake-up to the new world. It's time all of you sheep open your eyes. As for now, me/family/friends are preparing to eliminate this vermin from the USA and this sissy state of California. The good decent people out-number the trash. It will just take time for the clueless to wake up and realize there is a solution to rid this world of garbage like this.

We didn't have these problems when Ronal Reagan was governor. How's that liberal agenda doing for you, California?

I'm glad you are safe, Britanny. "stay home"? "report it to the police"? Maybe if California takes everyone's guns away from them then this kind of thing won't happen. The only one who can stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. Wake up, California and quit electing liberals.

I was there with my family last night. Up to the time the shooting occurred, it was very fun and family friendly. I believed the city tried to provide the best overall family friendly environment. we saw a good police presence there, and commend that they gave up their own time to be there for our well being. I would not have had a problem, if the city blocked off the whole area, and had metal detectors for every person to be checked.

The problem is us…… the public cannot be trusted. the city of Sacramento entrusted once again in its faithful citizens to help make this a family friendly event. Gun laws have no bearing here, as if there were more people carrying, most likely more bloodshed would of been spilled.

I am in support of full screening to come to an event like this……
