Rocklin Police Bust Catalytic Converter Thieves
ROCKLIN — A group of possible catalytic converter thieves were busted Sunday night, and police believe there may be at least a dozen victims.
It all started at the Century movie theater in Rocklin around 7:00pm. A man had just finished seeing a movie and used his remote starter to turn on his car. As soon as the car started, the victim said he saw several suspects scurry from under the vehicle.
The suspects then jumped into another vehicle and took off, but the victim was able to get a good description of the suspect’s car and a partial license plate number and called 911.
Rocklin Police quickly found the vehicle on Highway 65 getting onto I-80. The suspects’ car was eventually stopped at the intersection of Atlantic and Wills in Roseville. One of the guys took off, but was caught. Three other people were inside the car and surrendered to police. Inside the vehicle police officers found tools and about 12 other catalytic converters.
There were four suspects arrested; all from Stockton and range in age from 21 to 32. Each faces felony charges of grand theft, conspiracy, and possession of stolen property.
While the arrest was happening four other converter thefts were reported to Rocklin Police Dispatch.
Police believe there are more victims out there and ask any recent catalytic converter theft victims to contact them or their local law enforcement agency.
