Turlock Bakery Proud of Hometown Boy Kaepernick
What does 49er football have to do with cookies and cupcakes? When the starting quarterback is from your small community, it means everything.
“It’s just nice to have someone local be recognized,” said Terri Coonce.
Coonce decorates Niner-themed cookies and cupcakes at Turlock’s Olde Tyme Pastries on Geer Road.
The shop has been around for 30 years. This week, their sweets honoring 49er quarterback, and Turlock native, Colin Kaepernick have been hard to keep on the racks.
“We got them iced up and dipped, put a number seven on them and they’ve gone like wildfire since,” Coonce said.
Turlock is proud of Kaepernick, and they’re showing it in creative ways.
“Everyboy is, ‘Colin this, Colin that.’ It’s nice to see people overwhelmed by it,” Coonce told FOX40.
In downtown, Main Street Footers gave Kaepernick his own hot dog. Their contest asked for the best toppings, and the winning combo was special sauce, chili, jalepenos and coleslaw.
“It has all the toppings,” said Main Street Footers’ Molly Amant. “He’s so original and it came together nice.”
Turlock is a town of only 69,000. All of Kaepernick’s success means people are coming in from all over northern California and even out of state.
