Billionaire business magnate Ron Burkle met with NBA Commissioner David Stern in New York Thursday, the league confirmed to FOX40 Friday.
The two met in Stern’s office for two hours.
Burkle’s name is one Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson mentions regularly as someone that’s possibly interested in buying the Sacramento Kings.
His meeting with Stern was reportedly about buying the Kings and building a new arena where the Downtown Plaza mall currently sits, according to the Bee.
Mayor Johnson hinted Thursday that a new arena didn’t necessarily have to be in the downtown rail yards, a location he pushed hard for before the arena deal with the Maloof family fell through.
JMA Ventures recently bought the Downtown Plaza and has expressed interest in possibly using the site as an arena.
