Freight Train Hit and Kills Person, Accident Delays Commuters

A person has died after being hit by a freight train in Davis, and the investigation is delaying commuter trains Monday morning.

The accident involved a Union Pacific train carrying some kind of cargo. Representatives from the company joined Davis Police officers at the accident to investigate.

The person died at the scene, no information about who they are is being released at this time.

The train tracks run near I-80 and carry freight and passenger trains.

Two Capital Corridor Amtrak trains from Sacramento to San Jose were delayed as crews handled the accident.

Train #521 was delayed over an hour, and train #523 was delayed by about 30 minutes.

The Union Pacific train is being removed, and things will be back on schedule during the 7 a.m. hour.
