SACRAMENTO—

The St. John’s Shelter Program is getting a new shelter, officials announced late Tuesday morning.

Among the improvements over the old shelter will be more than double the number of bedrooms, from 14 to 31, and triple the amount of classroom space.

In total, the shelter will move from a 11,000 to 28,000 square foot place.

Local politicians, including Representative Doris Matsui, were at the event celebrating the new shelter.

The shelter serves to help homeless women and children. For more information, head over to http://stjohnsshelter.org
