Bodie, a canine officer with Sacramento Police, is recovering from a surgery to repair a ruptured disk in his back. He was shot twice on duty in May 2012.

A Sacramento Police dog already recovering from being shot in the face and paw, is now resting after spinal surgery.

Doctors noticed Bodie walking strange last week during therapy, and after an MRI, confirmed he had a disk rupture in his spine. The disk material was pushing against his spinal column and causing him to lose some function in his back legs.

Bodie was shot twice while trying to catch a stolen car suspect in a Sacramento neighborhood in May 2012. He has had surgeries to remove shrapnel and put a metal plate in his jaw, and he continues to get therapy with the goal of returning to work with the Sacramento Police Department.

Monday, Bodie had a short surgery, where some of the disk material was removed. Doctors are hoping when the swelling goes down to have a better understanding of what functionality he will gain back.

They will need to wait about two months after starting therapy again to know if Bodie can return to work.
