Women using weapons; it’s not just for Hollywood anymore.
Thanks to organizations like “Babes With Bullets”, “Second Amendment Sisters” and, “Girls With Guns”, now more than ever females are training to use firearms.
Gun maker “Glock” even has a new ad campaign targeting women.
At a private shooting range in Lincoln, class is in session. The day’s lesson: firing a .22 caliber handgun. Out of the 14 people in attendance, nine of them are women.
It was Leslie’s first time at the range.
“It’s like awesome, just to have that power in your hands and to be able to control it,” she said.
“It was great! I just loved it, now I’m addicted!” said Gina, another attendee.
“I was just happy that I hit the target, dead center.” said Marilyn, who also took the class.
Instructor John Taylor has been teaching classes like these for the past 20 years. He says these days, most of the people who sign up are women.
“Just in the last month, my business is 10 fold of what it was.” said Taylor.
In fact, his most popular class is just for women.
“Some women don’t want to come on in, and feel like they’re going to be competing with a male.” Taylor said.
The number one reason Taylor says he’s seeing more females sign up for his class is self defense.
“We had a home invasion and stolen cars. We didn’t open the door but if we did there were two masked men with gloves at about 11 o’clock at night.” said Leslie.
