The crane is coming down, and it could make for a spectacle in midtown this weekend.
A 250-foot tall crane, sitting just off the Capital City Freeway near Capitol Avenue, has been something of a landmark for the last 2-and-a-half years.
Starting around 9 a.m. Saturday, the crane will be taken apart in sections; the large, horizontal jib piece will be removed before noon. Crews are expected to finish completely on Sunday.
The crane, and a second one that was removed a year ago, were used to help construct the new Sutter Medical Women and Children Center between 28th and 29th Streets.
The new facility is part of Sutter’s midtown expansion project, which includes renovating Sutter General Hospital and the nearby Medical Pavilion.
