Officers opened fire on a man Monday afternoon in Rancho Cordova.
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department says Rancho Cordova Police officers responded to a call about a man, identified as 35-year-old Paul Tereschenko, acting erratically toward family members.
Two officers were led to the bedroom of the home on Nut Plains Drive to talk to Tereschenko and possibly get him to leave.
According to investigators, Terescenko was combative toward the officers. They shot him with a taser first, but it didn’t get the him under control. Police say Tereschenko’s size and strength began to overpower the two officers.
Finally, fearing for his safety and the safety of his partner, one officer pulled out his gun and shot Tereschenko. Paramedics tried to revive him, but he died from his injuries.
Both officers were treated for minor injuries.
