Two young people, a man and a woman, led authorities on a high-speed chase down Highway 32 Saturday afternoon.
The two were driving a reportedly stolen car.
A Butte County Sheriff’s officer saw the car, a Volkswagen Jetta, near the community of Magalia. The officer tried to pull the car over, but the driver refused and hit the gas pedal.
Authorities were led through the back roads to the small community of Forest Ranch until they reached Highway 32. Once on the highway, speeds were said to have exceeded 100 mph, forcing authorities to lay down spike strips.
All four tires on the Jetta were flatted by the spike strips and the car finally came to a stop near Yosemite Drive on the outskirts of Chico.
The driver, 18-year-old Breanne Sharpe, was immediately taken into custody, but the passenger ran from the scene. A perimeter had to be set up, with 20-year-old David Milliron eventually found and taken into custody about 40 minutes later.
Both now face felony charges, with Milliron also facing a parole violation.
