Metro Fire says flames bursted in a downstairs unit of an apartment complex in North Highlands Sunday evening.
The fire quickly spread upstairs, damaging a total of four units. Roughly 15 residents were displaced.
A mom, dad and their three children were in the unit where the fire started. They say their 5-year-old daughter walked into one of the rooms and opened the door — seeing nothing but flames.
Metro Fire says the cause is still under investigation, but the residents believe it was electrical.
“There were no civilian injuries however we do have three deceased cats at this time,” said Battalion Chief Maurice Johnson of Metro Fire.
The Red Cross will help those displaced.
