It was supposed to be the perfect love story. He, a 27-year-old car mechanic named Shane Carpenter. She, a 23-year-old nursing assistant, who anonymously tells FOX40 she was fed up with paying with everything.
“He was upset with his girlfriend” says Lt. Steve Tripp with the Nevada County Sheriff’s Department.
When she broke up with him, deputies say, he tried to get even.
“He poured Visine in her drink” Tripps said.
It sounds like a prank.
“That’s the common misconception, people think of this is a non-serious thing,” Tripps said.
After vomiting and blacking out, she says, she read Carpenter’s text messages. “He had sent text to his friends: if she’s gonna be talking crap, she’s gonna be crapping.” Tripps told FOX40.
Turns out, the nursing assistant had tetrahydrozoline in her system, Visine.
Carpenter was booked on two felony charges for attempting to poison his ex-girlfriend, and domestic violence.
