A Sacramento teenager continues to get unwanted calls from grown men after discovering someone used her image and phone number on “hook up” sites.
We’re calling her “Stephanie” because she prefers to keep her identity a secret. She now fears for her safety with so many random men having access to her personal information.
“It’s always sexual, almost every single (text message),” she said.
Stephanie is hoping the authorities get involved with her case. She seems certain that it’s a former friend behind the online attack, and she intends to help the authorities prove it.
A California law could apply to what’s happening to Stephanie.
Senate Bill 1411 seeks to prosecute, “…any person who knowingly and without consent credibly impersonates another actual person through or on an Internet Web site or by other electronic means for purposes of harming, intimidating, threatening, or defrauding another person…”
In addition, Stephanie could pursue a civil case against the aggressor.
