WOODLAND—

Police say that Woodland Fire Station #2, along West Street, had to be evacuated Monday morning after someone dropped off a suspicious device.

A person was said to have found the device at an empty house their neighborhood and brought it to the fire station sometime before 10:30 a.m. Firefighters then called police, who showed up at the station and found the object to be some sort of explosive device.

The station was soon evacuated, with the device isolated.

Traffic near West and El Dorado streets was blocked off, while neighbors and Woodland Christian Elementary students and staff were asked to shelter in place.

Yolo County Bomb Squad members showed up and safely detonated the device. The remains of the device have since been removed.

Business was back to normal by 1 p.m.

Investigators are still looking into the incident.  Authorities remind people that if you come across a suspicious device, do not do anything to it. Leave it in place and call law enforcement.
