A fifteen-year-old cat named “Cole” alerted a couple their home was burning down, giving them just enough time to make an escape early Thursday morning.
The door to the man and woman’s bedroom was closed to keep two of the dogs out. But the couple heard Cole howling and scratching the door, and opened it to find the house filled with smoke.
Wilton Firefighters said the closed door could have saved them from smoke inhalation.
They’re still unsure what caused the fire, but will be focusing their attention on the front of the home where most of the damage was done. Firefighters described a couch toward the front of the home as having “melted.”
The couple went out the back of the home to find windows exploding and flames leaping out from the house. Both were able to make it out of the home safely. Firefighters saw Cole running out of the home when they arrived.
The woman was quick to find a silver lining. She told FOX40, “I never really liked the wallpaper in front of the house, so I guess now it’s time to change it.”
