Getting the cheapest plane ticket is easier than you think, and we’re going to break it down by days of the week with the help of Fare Compare.
The cheapest time to buy tickets is Tuesday at noon. They typically sell out by Thursdays.
Wednesday is the cheapest day to fly, and earlier in the day isn’t always better. Airlines release cheaper seats about three to four months before the flight.
Another way to spend less on a ticket is to weigh less. Dr. Bharat Bhatta, an associate economics professor out of Norway, says a “pay by the pound” program makes sense, monetarily.
Bhatta says less weight means less fuel is used. Click here to read his study.
The idea of people who weigh more paying more isn’t exactly popular among travelers, though. Some say it’s discriminatory because men typically weigh more than women.
Only one airline, Samoa Air, uses a “pay by the pound” ticket pricing program.
