Lawrence Dhanes has been arrested for public drunkenness so many times that his occupation is listed as “drinker” in the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department’s booking log.

FOX40 spotted Dhanes walking along Watt Avenue Friday evening and asked him about his title that he didn’t have to apply for. It was given to him after being arrested dozens times for being drunk in public, 24 in just the last six months.

He says he blames nobody but himself for not seeking the help he needs.

occupation-drinker“I don’t mean to be publicly intoxicated. I used to have my own place and I would stay there,” he said. Dhanes is on the streets now.

He may be down on his luck, but Dhanes did have a laugh about his listed occupation.

“Unfortunately, we get a lot of repeat offenders, especially among the transient community,” Sheriff’s spokesman Sergeant Jason Ramos told FOX40. “The fact remains, we still have an obligation to safeguard them and make sure that if they’re impaired to the extent that they can’t care for themselves, that we get them to a safe place until they’re sober.”

Dhanes was arrested four times in the month of March alone.

I know an ER nurse who says this headline should really read "In Last 6 Months, Man Was ONLY Arrested 24 Times for being Drunk in Public". They didn't count all the times the cops dropped him at the ER to "sober up". Your tax dollars at work.
