The pink building filled with decadent desserts has been a mainstay on K Street for the past 21 years.
“We are doing better than ever,” owner Ahmed Eita said. “It’s time for us to get bigger and have a face lift.”
Have no fear.Rick’s desserts, including that unmistakable pink tile inside, aren’t going anywhere, just moving to the corner of 24th and J streets.
“It’s gonna match the whole motif of Rick’s dessert diner, the whole ‘50’s style, marriage of both together. I’m very excited,” Eita said.
A bigger kitchen will enable Ahmed to do much more.
“We’re doing better here. We’re improving on our variety. We’re creating new desserts,” he said. “My biggest hit is gonna be the sugar-free desserts. And I can announce it now because I was planning on it for the last five years.”
Diabetics will enjoy not only dessert, but gourmet, to-die for, kind of stuff.
Eita will also be able to create more wedding cakes and bring back something he had to stop making years ago, because of space.
“Sticky buns and cinnamon rolls, and turnovers and bearclaws and muffins,” Eita said.
As far as the favorite after all these years- it will be at the new place, too, of course.
“The most popular is we have here is the tiramisu. We’re very proud of that here,” Eita added.
