California Lawmakers Ask For Repeal Of Fire TaxSACRAMENTO-

A bill that would do away with the $150 fire protection fee for rural property owners failed Tuesday in a Senate Committee vote.

The Senate Committee on Natural Resources and Water voted 4-3 to strike down the bill originally proposed by Sen. Ted Gains, R-Rocklin.

Gains’ office said his bill, calling the fee and illegal tax, had bipartisan support.

The senator said he vows to continue to fight the fee.
