Chipotle is testing out a new vegetarian menu on Sacramento.
“In Sacramento, we know what good food is,” said Nicole Rogers, a marketing strategist for Chipotle.
That’s right, we do.
“It’s a really great market to see how well it does in our restaurants,” Rogers said.
Sacramento is somewhat of a testing market. If food does well here, it goes national.
“We have smart food savvy people,” Rogers said.
That’s why Chipotle as of this week has sofritas – aka tofu. But, that’s only in Sacramento. You’re wondering, why test new stuff on us? Chipotle says it’s simple.
“We have a large population here. It’s well spread out, well educated, and we have a pretty good demographic of ethnic diversity, socioeconomic diversity,” Rogers said.
The sofritas vegan option at Chipotle started yesterday, in all of Northern California. And Chipotle is not the only company testing us. Crystal Pepsi tested our taste buds back in 1992. That following year, it was sold nationwide.
Maybe it’s not so bad we get to try new food.
It’s not just food and drink that’s tested here. Red Box delivery was tested here last year, and a solar program in 2008.
