For some having children is easy, for others it is not that simple.
“One in six couples are unable to conceive when they want to,” said Dr. Carlos Soto-Albors.
That is why the Northern California Fertility Center is helping families find the answers they are looking for.
Each year, the clinic chooses one couple for a free cycle of in vitro fertilization, a process that takes eggs from a woman’s ovaries, fertilizes them outside her body then places them back inside.
“Magically you transfer them and 9 months later there is a baby,” said Dr. Soto-Albors.
But not everyone is lucky. It can take couples several cycles before actually getting pregnant and it is costly. One cycle alone can cost $12,000.
“For some couples they can not afford a cycle of in vitro fertilization so we said, ‘why don’t we give back to the community?'” said Dr. Soto-Albors
Since 2010, Dr. Soto-Albors and his clinic have helped 3 couples with a free in vitro cycle.
Two of them were successful.
In fact, the winners in 2010 now have twins after hearing about the program on FOX40.
